Hydraulic Structures
Evaluating hydraulics around complex in-channel structures can be a challenge. Not only can it be difficult to add the geometric elements necessary to represent a structure in a model, but it can be even more difficult to troubleshoot instabilities these features. Additionally, modeling structures in 1D or 2D models presents unique challenges to the user. Our courses address these challenges head on and gives students the tools needed to plan, construct, troubleshoot, and evaluate model results impacted by hydraulic structures.

Habitat Analysis and Restoration Design
2D HEC-RAS is an exceptional tool for assessing habitat suitability for various fish specifies. It seamlessly produces detailed depth and velocity data which can be used to identify areas of refuge, passage zones, and obstacles for all life stages. These model outputs can subsequently be used to help design restoration features that improve or add suitable habitat areas for target species. Our training prepares students to build 2D hydraulic models with the level of detail needed to address project goals.

Dam and Levee Safety
HEC-RAS has robust functionality to address dam and levee safety questions. The software, designed by the US Army Corps of Engineering, can be used to conduct dam or levee breach analysis, reservoir routing, assess spillway capacity, evaluate gate operations. Often times, these analyses are some of the most difficult to conduct due to the extreme hydraulic nature of dam/levee safety events. Our training courses include standalone lectures and workshops addressing how to successfully build models that can answer dam and levee safety questions

Bridge Modeling
Bridge modeling is a critical skill for users of HEC-RAS to possess. Property modeling bridges allows for accurate representation of flood elevations, flow attenuation, scour around piers and abutments, and flow patterns upstream and downstream of the bridge. HEC-RAS continues to improve the 1D and 2D bridge routines, so there are always new features and functions to learn about and apply to your bridge modeling skillset. Our classes include standalone bridge modeling lectures and workshops for both 1D and 2D applications.

Floodplain Managment
Those working in the field of floodplain management know the value that a well-built hydraulic model can provide to communities. For decades, HEC-RAS has been the choice for floodplain modeling in the United States. While many of these models have historically been built using a 1D approach, application of 2D and 1D/2D combined models have unlocked the ability to seamlessly capture complex channel & floodplain interactions like never before. Our training provides guidance on when to use 1D, 2D, or 1D/2D models for floodplain analysis. Our Advanced 2D class also includes training on 2D encroachment analysis.
